The Canary Wharf Winter Lights Festival is set to return, illuminating London’s E14 with stunning displays from January 21 to February 1, 2025. Celebrating its ninth year, the free outdoor event will showcase 12 new light installations from UK and international artists, alongside seven works from Canary Wharf’s permanent collection.

Spanning 11 nights, the immersive light exhibition promises to be one of London’s top attractions this winter. Visitors can explore the installations spread across the Canary Wharf estate by downloading the Winter Lights map via the Canary Wharf app.

This year’s festival highlights include innovative pieces never before displayed in the UK, as well as new commissions by renowned light artists. The theme focuses on the “transformative and otherworldly qualities of art and light,” featuring portals, mirages, and black holes.

Among the standout works is “Error” by Vendel and De Wolf, a mesmerizing light tornado orbiting a pylon. Another centerpiece, “Bird Passing By” by Luminariste with Benjamin Nesme and Marc Sicard, is a monumental sculpture resembling a bird in flight, evoking the elegance of Hope, the whale at the Natural History Museum.

Discussing their creation, France-based Luminariste studio described “Bird Passing By” as “a giant magical bird emerging in the night, carrying stories in its wake.”

The festival concludes at the newly opened Eden Dock with “Illusion Hole” by UxU Studio, a breathtaking 20-meter-wide sinkhole encircled by light.

Visitors can enjoy street food, hot drinks, and fire-roasted marshmallows in Jubilee Park, with additional dining options available at Canary Wharf’s cafes, bars, and restaurants.
