Starmer Lauds Trump as World Leaders Celebrate His Return

European leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, conveyed their best wishes, signaling a hopeful reset in transatlantic relations.

Leaders from NATO and various European countries, along with prominent global figures, extended their congratulations to US President Donald Trump on his return to the White House, where he was officially inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer led the chorus of support, praising Trump’s leadership and highlighting the enduring partnership between the United States and the United Kingdom. “On behalf of the United Kingdom, I send my warmest congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on his inauguration as the forty-seventh President of the United States,” Starmer said in a video message. “The special relationship between the UK and the US will continue to flourish for years to come. President Trump’s vision for peace through strength aligns with our shared goals.”

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the potential for enhanced defense cooperation under Trump’s renewed leadership. “With Trump back in office, we will turbo-charge defense spending and production,” Rutte stated, acknowledging Trump’s push for a more self-reliant Europe in terms of defense.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India also extended his congratulations, expressing his eagerness to collaborate with Trump once more. “Congratulations my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump on your historic inauguration as the 47th President of the United States! I look forward to working closely together once again,” Modi tweeted.

Leaders from Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Ukraine, Israel, Turkey, Canada, Brazil, and various European nations joined in congratulating Trump, each expressing optimism about strengthening bilateral relations and tackling global challenges in partnership with the United States.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu highlighted the strategic importance of the US-Israel alliance, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized collaboration in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva reaffirmed their commitments to deepening ties with the US.
