The Moon Bloom installation, a vibrant testament to Sutton’s cultural diversity, is set to find a permanent home at the London Cancer Hub in Belmont, enriching the community garden with its artistic and ecological charm.

Following the resounding success of the Moon Bloom installation and the spirited Moon Festival in September, Sutton’s cherished structure is set to embark on a new journey. By late January 2025, the Moon Bloom will find a permanent home at the London Cancer Hub in Belmont, where it will continue to inspire and uplift.

Originally installed in Trinity Square on Sutton High Street as part of the 2024 London Festival of Architecture, the Moon Bloom is a creative masterpiece by Adrienne Lau of the Edgy Collective. The installation’s urban garden design not only celebrates Sutton’s rich cultural diversity and heritage but also champions environmental sustainability.

The relocation of the Moon Bloom to the Community Garden at the London Cancer Hub marks a significant step in its journey. Socius, the developer behind the London Cancer Hub, has meticulously transformed the garden into a serene and welcoming space for staff, patients, and visitors. The addition of the Moon Bloom, with its vibrant raised beds and diverse flora, promises to enhance the tranquil atmosphere, fostering relaxation, mindfulness, and a closer connection to nature.

The London Cancer Hub, already a beacon of innovation as home to the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Institute for Cancer Research, continues to grow with the support of Sutton Council and Aviva Capital Partners. The development of this cutting-edge campus will bring state-of-the-art research, treatment, and innovation facilities to the borough, creating thousands of high-quality jobs and accelerating breakthroughs in cancer treatment.

Councillor Jake Short, Chair of Sutton Council’s Housing, Economy and Business Committee, expressed his enthusiasm for the Moon Bloom’s new chapter:

“I am delighted that the borough’s first-ever moon gate will be relocating to the London Cancer Hub Community Garden after starting out at Trinity Square in Sutton town centre. The Moon Bloom will continue its celebration of our diverse communities while supporting the local environment. It has been a wonderful addition to Trinity Square during the Moon Festival celebration.”

Councillor Short added, “I hope its new location will bring an even greater sense of calm and beauty to the community garden at the world-leading London Cancer Hub. Diversity and inclusion are what make Sutton such a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family. I look forward to seeing the Moon Bloom in its new home in Belmont.”

“Moon Bloom creates an inviting space where people and nature thrive together.” – Adrienne Lau, Edgy Collective

Adrienne Lau, the creative mind behind the Moon Bloom, highlighted the installation’s ethos:

“Moon Bloom is a participatory installation that features a sculptural moongate, designed to harvest rainwater and nourish a nocturnal garden. Enriched by community mark-making and a diverse selection of plants that attract pollinators, it creates an inviting space where people and nature thrive together. It is a true honour to continue Moon Bloom’s public contribution by re-homing it in the Community Garden of the London Cancer Hub, where it can positively impact the healthcare environment and the wellbeing of its community.”

Joss Taylor from Socius shared similar sentiments:

“We are delighted London Cancer Hub is set to be the new, permanent home for The Moon Bloom. This addition to our community garden will help set the scene for our involvement, alongside Sutton Council, in the London Festival of Architecture 2025, where a captivating programme will showcase the world-leading research taking place already and a glimpse of what is to come in the future.”

As the Moon Bloom transitions to its permanent home, it remains a powerful symbol of Sutton’s dedication to cultural diversity, environmental sustainability, and community well-being. This new chapter at the London Cancer Hub promises to enrich lives and foster hope, embodying the borough’s vision for a harmonious future.
