Over 100 business representatives attended the ‘Hillingdon Takes Off’ event, which celebrated the borough’s burgeoning reputation as a key hub for London business.
Hillingdon Council has marked a significant step in its mission to drive economic growth, hosting its inaugural investment conference, Hillingdon Takes Off, on Thursday at the Battle of Britain Bunker Exhibition and Visitor Centre in Uxbridge.
The event, backed by SEGRO and UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) support, highlighted Hillingdon’s growing reputation as a key business hub in London and called for greater collaboration with organisations to strengthen the local economy.
More than 100 representatives from 70 business sectors attended the conference, which showcased the council’s ambitious plans for prosperity and the borough’s appeal as a hotspot for investment.

The Leader of Hillingdon Council, Councillor Ian Edwards, opened the event, followed by three panel discussions featuring experts from major organisations such as the Greater London Authority, Transport for London, Heathrow Airport, Brunel University London, and SEGRO. The panels explored challenges in housing, transport, and investment, shared success stories from existing investors, and detailed the council’s plans for shaping its new Local Plan.
Councillor Steve Tuckwell, Cabinet Member for Planning, Housing and Growth, emphasised Hillingdon’s readiness to welcome new investment. “This event heralds that Hillingdon is very much open to new opportunities and poised to capitalise on its position as west London’s gateway for business,” he said.

“Our priority is fostering economic growth and creating an environment where businesses can thrive. We’re committed to working with our business community, investors, and partners to drive innovation and ensure the local economy continues to flourish. This will enhance the lives of residents and make Hillingdon an even better place to live, work, study, and do business.”
The event also highlighted the council’s key investment areas and the exciting opportunities available to businesses looking to expand or relocate.
With its strategic location, robust infrastructure, and collaborative spirit, Hillingdon is setting its sights on becoming a flagship borough for business and innovation in London.
