Gas supply outage affecting homes in N10

Cadent engineers are working to resolve the issue, requiring access to each property to turn off the gas before they can remove water from the mains…reports Asian Lite News

Over 3,000 homes in the N10 postcode area are without gas after water from a burst main entered the gas supply network on Sunday, January 12. Most of the affected properties are in the borough of Barnet, though the postcode straddles the Barnet and Haringey border. Gas supplier Cadent has announced it will take at least a week to restore service.

Cadent engineers are working to resolve the issue, requiring access to each property to turn off the gas before they can remove water from the mains. Once the water is cleared, they will need to return to each home to restore gas service. Updates and street details are available on Cadent’s website.

To support residents during the disruption, Cadent has established a customer support hub at Freehold Community Centre, 9 Alexandra Road, N10 2EY, which operates daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. An emergency phone line is also available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 0800 389 8000. The company is providing electric heaters, hobs, and food vouchers for those on its Priority Services Register.

Barnet Council has activated an emergency response to assist vulnerable residents, with Adult Social Care and Children’s Services coordinating welfare visits in partnership with Cadent. Additionally, Finchley Lido Leisure Centre is offering shower facilities to affected residents during normal operating hours.

Local businesses and community centers are also stepping in to help. Smart Buns in Turnpike Lane, Muswell Hill Methodist Church, and Holybella Café on Colney Hatch Lane are offering free food, while Friern Barnet Community Library has opened as a warm community space. Many shops and cafes displaying ‘Warm Welcome Signs’ provide pre-paid food and drink vouchers under pay-it-forward schemes.

Residents are urged to contact Cadent’s emergency call center for any immediate concerns or assistance. For updates and additional support, Cadent can be reached by email at WeCare@CadentGas.com or via their website.

If you smell gas, call 0800 111 999 immediately. Cadent reminds residents to verify the ID of any engineers before allowing access to their homes.
