Launched in February 2023, the YPS is a reciprocal initiative that allows young professionals from both India and the UK to live and work in each other’s countries for up to two years.

The UK-India Young Professionals Scheme (YPS) 2025 ballot is set to open on February 18, offering Indian nationals the opportunity to live, study, work, and travel in the UK. The ballot will close on February 20.
In a statement, the British High Commission in New Delhi confirmed that Indian nationals aged 18 to 30 must enter the ballot on gov.uk to be considered for one of the 3,000 available spots. Entry to the ballot is free, and successful candidates will be selected at random.
“Applicants must be at least 18 years old on their intended date of travel, hold a UK bachelor’s degree-level qualification or higher, and have proof of £2,530 in savings to support themselves,” the statement added.

British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, encouraged applicants from across the country to seize the opportunity. “The Young Professionals Scheme is an excellent programme that strengthens the modern relationship between our nations. I strongly encourage people from all corners of India to apply—from Itanagar to Coimbatore, Leh to Surat, and Bhubaneswar to Indore,” she said.

Successful applicants will be notified via email within two weeks of the ballot closing and must apply for their visa within 90 days. The process includes submitting an online application, providing biometrics, and paying the visa application fee along with the immigration health surcharge. In the year ending December 2023, more than 2,100 YPS visas were issued to Indian nationals.
