2024 BAFTA Awards: Conclave Dominates with Four Wins

Brody’s powerful performance in The Brutalist was widely praised, securing him the coveted acting honor

The 2024 BAFTA Awards ceremony, held at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, February 18, saw Conclave, the Vatican drama, emerge as the biggest winner of the night, securing four prestigious awards. The film took home Best Film and Outstanding British Film, marking a historic achievement in its category.

Meanwhile, Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist earned two major accolades, with Corbet winning Best Director and Adrien Brody claiming Best Actor for his role in the film. Brody’s powerful performance in The Brutalist was widely praised, securing him the coveted acting honor.

Hosted by Doctor Who star David Tennant, the gala was streamed live in India on Lionsgate Play and featured an impressive lineup of talent. The night celebrated not only Conclave and The Brutalist, but also the incredible contributions of artists such as Mikey Madison, who clinched the Leading Actress award for Anora, and Kieran Culkin, who took home the Supporting Actor award for A Real Pain.

Notable Wins and Nominations

The Leading Actor category saw Adrien Brody’s victory over notable contenders, including Timothee Chalamet and Ralph Fiennes. Mikey Madison, who starred in Anora, triumphed over fellow nominees, including Cynthia Erivo and Saoirse Ronan, in the Leading Actress category.
Other winners included Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, which took home Best Animated Film, and Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, which was awarded Best Documentary.

In the category of Best Director, Brady Corbet was awarded for his work on The Brutalist, while Peter Straughan’s screenplay for Conclave won Best Adapted Screenplay.

The EE Rising Star Award, voted for by the public, was claimed by David Jonsson, beating out strong contenders such as Marisa Abela and Mikey Madison.
