In an interview with Deadline, Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner revealed ongoing discussions with Barantini about expanding the story
Netflix’s critically acclaimed British crime drama Adolescence may be returning for a second season, as Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, is in early talks with director Philip Barantini and Netflix to develop a follow-up.
In an interview with Deadline, Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner revealed ongoing discussions with Barantini about expanding the story. The original four-part miniseries was co-created by actor Stephen Graham and writer Jack Thorne, and the team is hopeful both will return for the potential sequel.
Gardner emphasized the importance of staying true to the emotional depth and stylistic approach that defined the first season. “Phil’s style of doing the episodes in one take is not a gimmick. It’s very much in conversation with the subject matter,” she explained. Kleiner added, “The theory was: what would happen if you couldn’t look away? And will that make the subject embed in you in a different way?”

Adolescence, which premiered on March 13, has quickly become a fan favorite on Netflix. It recently climbed to fourth place on Netflix’s Most Popular English TV list, up from ninth the previous week. Between March 31 and April 6 alone, the series drew 17.8 million views—proof that audiences remain captivated by its intense storytelling.
The show centers around 13-year-old Jamie Miller, played by Owen Cooper, who is arrested for the murder of a female classmate. Each episode unfolds in a single, continuous take, heightening the emotional impact and realism. Stephen Graham, in addition to co-creating the series, plays Eddie Miller, Jamie’s father. With both critical acclaim and growing viewer numbers, the prospect of a second season promises to dive even deeper into the complex and haunting narrative that made Adolescence a standout series.
