Atwell’s Mission: Impossible Secret

Known for her dynamic action roles and commitment to authenticity, Atwell’s revelation adds a new layer of admiration for her performance

Hollywood star Hayley Atwell has revealed a jaw-dropping behind-the-scenes secret about her role in the final Mission: Impossible film — she was eight and a half months pregnant while filming a high-stakes fight scene.
The 43-year-old actress shared this surprising detail during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. While introducing a clip from Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Fallon asked if there was anything the audience should know before watching the scene. Atwell replied with a smile, “I’ve never said this before, actually. This is a Fallon exclusive.”

She continued, “During this fight sequence, we came back to it a few times to add a few elements to it. And in this clip, I’m actually eight and a half months pregnant.” Fallon, clearly shocked, responded, “Are you serious?” To which Atwell confirmed, “I’m serious. Yes.”

Atwell went on to describe the support she received from the cast and crew on set. “I have to say, I was taken such good care of. Everyone was so supportive and they were like, ‘Oh, you can sit down, and we’ll have a stunt double do it,’” she recalled. “And I was like, ‘No! I’ve worked too hard. Let me do it.’ So I did it, and here it is.” Atwell joined the Mission: Impossible franchise in 2023, portraying IMF agent Grace. Her character plays a major role in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the eighth and final installment of the iconic action series led by Tom Cruise.

Known for her dynamic action roles and commitment to authenticity, Atwell’s revelation adds a new layer of admiration for her performance. Despite being in the final stages of pregnancy, she insisted on doing the scene herself — showcasing both her dedication and physical resilience.
In 2024, Atwell quietly welcomed her first child with her partner, composer and producer Ned Wolfgang Kelly. The couple has kept their relationship largely out of the spotlight. However, during a May 19 episode of LIVE with Kelly and Mark, the actress seemingly confirmed their marriage by referring to Kelly as her husband.

With Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning marking a grand finale for the beloved franchise, Atwell’s behind-the-scenes story has only heightened excitement and admiration for her role in it.
