Florence Pugh recently revealed that she personally emailed Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to push for performing her own stunt in the upcoming superhero film Thunderbolts. The stunt in question? Jumping off Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—the second tallest building in the world, standing at a staggering 2,722 feet.
According to Variety, Pugh was determined to take the leap herself rather than rely on a stunt double. “I got on all the emails. It was in the script, and then slowly as we got closer to shooting, they said they don’t think it’s going to happen because it’s a crazy insurance ordeal,” she said. “We’re not going to throw me off the second tallest building in the world.”
Still, the actress wouldn’t back down. “We have to do this! We’re going to have three women break three different Guinness World Records,” she continued. “I had to keep on pushing, and then they’re like, ‘Okay, if you want to fall off the second tallest building, we’ll figure it out for you.’”
Pugh, who plays Yelena Belova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, admitted that while she enjoys heights, the stunt was next level. “The mental control I had to do that day was its own superpower,” she said, adding that the adrenaline crash afterward was intense—so much so that she slept for three hours right after.
Thunderbolts stars Florence Pugh alongside Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on May 2.
