Julia Fox Reveals She Changed Into Her Second Oscars Dress “On the Side of the Road”

Her first look at the Vanity Fair after-party was a totally sheer dress that captured attention, while her second outfit was a completely different vibe

Julia Fox pulled off two striking looks after the Oscars on Sunday (March 2, 2025), making a bold fashion statement at both the Vanity Fair party and the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s glamorous bash. The 35-year-old actress revealed she made a dramatic change from one outfit to another in a very unconventional way—by swapping dresses “on the side of the road.”

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Julia explained her unique outfit switch, saying, “I changed on the side of the road. Yeah, I was butt a**-naked on the side of the road. I’ll do anything for a look.”

Her first look at the Vanity Fair after-party was a totally sheer dress that captured attention, while her second outfit was a completely different vibe. For the Elton John AIDS Foundation event, she sported a blonde wig, a white shirt, a grey skirt, and a purple tie, channeling a chic, almost theatrical style. Julia embraced her second look as all about “theatre” and “performance,” offering her thoughts on why she dressed the way she did. She shared, “This is like a swept away, like a gust of wind hit me… We’re in Hollywood, it’s about drama. It’s about theatre. It’s about performance. I think it’s easy to just put on a dress and look pretty or beautiful or hot and I don’t really aspire to that.”

Known for her bold and unique fashion choices, Julia doesn’t shy away from drawing inspiration from various sources. In a previous year, she had a “mac and cheese” inspired blonde hairdo in collaboration with the cheese brand Velveeta, showcasing her fun and playful side.

Julia’s stylist, John Novotny—who uses they/them pronouns—also spoke about their creative partnership. When reflecting on Julia’s golden hairstyle, Novotny shared with People magazine, “The Velveeta Gold is honestly fab and she’s definitely golden! Julia and I were both pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the gold color is. It’s a warmer yellow, reminiscent of a warm sunny day or a delicious bowl of mac and cheese.”

The pair’s strong relationship is built on trust and mutual excitement for taking risks with their looks, and this unconventional style collaboration proved to be a success. Thankfully, the transition from platinum blonde to golden yellow for Julia’s “mac and cheese” look was a relatively smooth process, taking almost an hour and leaving no damage to her hair.

Novotny explained the ease of the process, saying, “A lot of yellow hair dyes tend to lean more [towards] slime green, but not this one. This dye is a deposit-only color, meaning no damage.”

Julia’s fashion choices continue to reflect her unique approach to style—never afraid to stand out, experiment, and make bold statements in the name of drama and performance.
