The poignant Rajasthani socio-drama Omlo is set to make its mark on the global stage at the Cannes Film Festival Market 2025. The film, directed by Sonu Randeep Choudhury, will be showcased on May 13 as part of the market’s curated lineup spotlighting powerful independent cinema from around the world.
Produced by Hare Krishna Pictures, Omlo is a moving tale set in the rustic town of Shree Dungargarh in Bikaner, Rajasthan. It follows the parallel stories of a 7-year-old boy and a camel, both navigating life under the burden of helplessness. The film explores how family members in a patriarchal and trauma-ridden household are dehumanized and stripped of agency — a haunting metaphor brought to life through the boy’s bond with the animal.
Written and directed by Choudhury, Omlo stars Shambho Mahajan, Sonu Randeep Choudhury, and Sonali Sharmistha. The film features cinematography by Wilson Rabinse and a soul-stirring background score by Devendra Bhome. Its music, composed by Gazi Khan Barna and Bhuvan Ahuja with lyrics by Choudhury himself, adds further emotional depth to the narrative.
The film is produced by Rohit Makhija, Manish Goplani, Neha Pandey, and Sonu Randeep Choudhury, with Ajay Rathore, Arvind Dagur, and Yatin Rathore serving as co-producers. Following its Cannes showcase, Omlo will have its world premiere at the 26th Rainbow International Film Festival in London, continuing its festival journey and building momentum on the global stage.
In addition to Omlo, veteran actor Anupam Kher’s directorial venture Tanvi The Great will also premiere at Cannes, within the Marché du Film section. The film will begin its international tour with screenings in cities like London, New York, and Los Angeles. Kher, along with the film’s cast and several A-listers, is expected to attend the prestigious screening.
With Omlo, Indian regional cinema once again steps into the global spotlight, presenting a story that is both deeply local and universally resonant.
