Rebecca Hall to Star in Action-Thriller ‘Onslaught’

In addition to Hall, Stevens, and Arjona, the film will feature Michael Biehn, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, and UFC star Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira, though their roles are still under wraps

Rebecca Hall is reuniting with her ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ director Adam Wingard for the action-thriller ‘Onslaught.’

The 42-year-old actress will star alongside her Monsterverse co-star Dan Stevens and Adria Arjona in the A24 production, which has started filming in New Mexico.

The plot centers on a mother (played by Arjona) living in a trailer who must rely on “a particular set of skills” to protect her family when dangerous beings escape a secret military base. Although Hall’s role remains undisclosed, The Hollywood Reporter suggests her character is linked to Stevens’ part—a German scientist involved in the experiments that escape the base.

In addition to Hall, Stevens, and Arjona, the film will feature Michael Biehn, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, and UFC star Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira, though their roles are still under wraps.

Produced by Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett under the Ryder Picture Company banner, the film will also have Wingard producing alongside manager Jeremy Platt through Breakaway Civilization. Lyrical Media’s Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers are executive producers in partnership with A24, which is co-financing the project. A release date has not yet been announced.

Hall previously collaborated with Wingard on 2024’s ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,’ playing Dr. Ilene Andrews, a scientist who travels to Hollow Earth to recruit Kong and team up with Godzilla against a new threat. Wingard, who also directed the 2021 blockbuster ‘Godzilla vs. Kong,’ is departing from the Monsterverse to focus on ‘Onslaught.’

Despite stepping away, Wingard hinted that he has “more story to tell” within the Monsterverse. Speaking to Discussing Film before the latest installment’s release, he shared: “If you’ve done two movies, maybe you should do a third because there’s a trilogy in there. It depends on how [‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’] performs and shapes up. I do have more story to tell and would be excited to return.”

Discussing his approach, Wingard emphasized prioritizing the two iconic creatures over the human cast. He explained to The Hollywood Reporter: “During development, my motto was ‘Simplicity is key.’ By creating a smaller cast, we could develop a more intimate story. This allowed us to spend time with both the human characters and the monsters without shortchanging either.”
