The movie, directed by Jacques Audiard and also starring Zoe Saldana, has faced scrutiny after old inflammatory tweets by Karla resurfaced.

Selena Gomez has expressed pride in her role in Emilia Perez, despite recent controversy surrounding co-star Karla Sofia Gascon. Speaking at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Gomez said she has “no regrets” about the film and would “do this movie over and over again.”

The movie, directed by Jacques Audiard and also starring Zoe Saldana, has faced scrutiny after old inflammatory tweets by Karla resurfaced. The 52-year-old actress, who became the first trans person nominated for an Oscar, issued an apology on Instagram.

In her post, Karla sought forgiveness for past remarks and emphasized that her views have evolved: “I have many things to learn… Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a racist.” She claimed that some of her posts were taken “out of context.” Despite the backlash, Gomez remains proud of the project and has chosen to focus on the positive aspects of her work.
