£6m Boost for Croydon Primary Healthcare

A multi-million-pound investment in Croydon’s primary care services has been confirmed, with the green light given for a £6 million medical centre in Coulsdon. The new facility, located on the site of the former CALAT building, will provide over 35,000 additional GP appointments each year, significantly improving healthcare access for residents in the south of the borough.

The state-of-the-art centre will be developed through a partnership between Croydon NHS and Croydon Council, supporting the borough’s strategy to enhance local health and wellbeing services. Construction is set to begin this summer, with the centre expected to open in 2026.

Improving Access to Healthcare
Matthew Kershaw, Croydon’s Place-Based Leader for Health, welcomed the announcement, calling it a major step forward for the community.

“With the opening of a new medical centre, we have the opportunity to actively improve the health of local people, helping them manage conditions at home and seek medical advice closer to where they live,” Kershaw said.

“For many Coulsdon residents who have previously had to look outside the area for care, this investment is a significant milestone. I’d like to thank all those who have worked to bring these plans to life.”

The project has been made possible through joint efforts between local NHS services and Croydon Council, ensuring the site remains dedicated to healthcare.

Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon, praised the investment, saying: “This is fantastic news for local people. A modern, accessible medical centre will not only improve health services but also contribute to wider regeneration efforts in the area. Having listened to the needs of the community, I’m proud to see this project move forward.”

A ‘Huge Win’ for Coulsdon
The investment has been championed by Chris Philp, MP for Croydon South, who has worked alongside health and council leaders to secure funding.

“The agreement of a new medical centre is a huge win for the people of Coulsdon,” Philp said. “This is part of our ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services and ensure residents receive the care they deserve.”

With construction set to begin later this year, Croydon’s new primary care hub is expected to be a key pillar in the borough’s evolving healthcare landscape, providing better access to GP services and specialist care for thousands of residents.
