Barnet Council’s adult social care services have earned a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), reflecting the council’s dedication to providing high-quality, responsive, and person-centred support.

The CQC report commended Barnet’s commitment to helping residents maintain their independence and enhance overall wellbeing, despite increasing demands and financial constraints.

A spokesperson for Barnet Council expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “Our ‘Good’ rating reflects the hard work and dedication of our adult social care teams, especially in the face of rising demand for our services and a tight squeeze on our budgets. We are proud of the strides we’ve made in supporting residents to live independently and enhancing care standards across the borough. While challenges remain, we are steadfast in our commitment to continue improving and delivering for our community.”

Key Highlights from the CQC Assessment:

  1. Innovative Reablement Services: An impressive 92.96% of residents aged 65 and older remained at home 91 days after hospital discharge, surpassing the national average of 83.7%.
  2. Improved Waiting Times: Occupational therapy assessment wait times dropped by nearly 50% between January and June 2024 due to additional staff recruitment.
  3. Inclusive Representation: Over 300 individuals with lived experience actively participate in Barnet’s people’s voice group, shaping decision-making and oversight.
  4. Support for Independence: Residents benefited from equipment and home adaptations, enabling them to live independently in their own homes.

The report underscores Barnet Council’s efforts to enhance care standards and its determination to build on this success in the future.
