Her message extended beyond affection—Roan also used her platform to advocate for animal adoption
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Chappell Roan may be best known for her chart-topping hits like Pink Pony Club and Good Luck, Babe!, but off-stage, she harbors a surprisingly wholesome obsession: guinea pigs.
Speaking candidly on the Las Culturistas podcast, the 27-year-old pop sensation shared her deep affection for the small, furry rodents. “I’m really glad that guinea pigs have their own culture online because I’m a guinea pig girl,” she said. “I’m just obsessed with them. I had four at a time but they passed away. I think they’re the cutest animals on earth.”
Roan, who once volunteered for a year at a guinea pig rescue shelter, said her love for rodents extends beyond guinea pigs, but it’s these squeaky little pets that truly captured her heart. She praised the online guinea pig community, describing it as “awesome” and full of likeminded enthusiasts.
Before achieving mainstream fame, Roan even featured her guinea pigs in a music video and used her social media to document their adoption process. In a heartfelt Instagram post during the COVID-19 lockdown in May 2020, she introduced fans to her four pets—Sonic (tri-color), Honeydew (black), Gogo (gray), and Nadine (long-haired).
“These lovely ladies were so sweet and sat while we filmed,” she wrote. “I adopted them from @laguineapigrescue in 2018 because I thought having a guinea pig would remind me of home since I had one I adored in 4th grade.”
At the time, Roan admitted that she never expected to end up with four guinea pigs but found immense joy in caring for them, especially during the isolating days of quarantine. “They make me laugh every single day because they’re such tiny animals with big personalities,” she said. “They’re definitely not an easy, low-maintenance pet whatsoever, but I love them and they are precious to me.”
Her message extended beyond affection—Roan also used her platform to advocate for animal adoption. “Please consider adopting rather than buying at pet stores and support local shelters,” she urged her fans, adding that even small pets like guinea pigs deserve loving, informed homes.
Roan’s heartfelt admiration for her pets paints a different side of the artist, known for her bold performances and emotionally charged lyrics. Her reflections highlight the companionship and comfort pets can provide—even more so during times of global uncertainty.
While her career continues to soar, it’s clear that Roan’s heart remains grounded in simple joys—like the soft squeaks and big personalities of her beloved guinea pigs.
