Kim Woodburn, the indomitable “Queen of Clean” and unforgettable British TV personality, has died at the age of 83 following a short illness.
Her representative confirmed the news in a statement: “It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved Kim Woodburn passed away… following a short illness. Kim was an incredibly kind, caring, charismatic and strong person.” Her husband Peter, described as “heartbroken,” also shared a heartfelt message: “My wonderful, beautiful, Kim passed away last night. God bless, my love, xx xx.”
Born Patricia Mary McKenzie in Portsmouth, on 25 March 1942, Woodburn left home at 16 and began working as a live-in cleaner in Liverpool. She had an arduous life which she has openly discussed several times : her troubled childhood, early pregnancy, stillbirth of her child, and partial blindness.
Her life took a dramatic turn in the early 2000s when she was cast by Channel 4, rising to national prominence co-presenting How Clean Is Your House? with Aggie MacKenzie from 2003 to 2009. The series, which paired hygiene advice with unflinching grit, routinely drew millions of viewers.
Woodburn’s forthright manner and trademark glamour – complete with pearls and a no-nonsense attitude made her a household name. She became a reality TV stalwart, reaching the finals of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2009 and Celebrity Big Brother in 2017, where her fiery clashes and emotional candour won her both headlines and admiration. In early 2025, she paused personal appearances citing health concerns and underwent eye surgery weeks before her passing.
Tributes have poured in from fans and fellow celebrities, celebrating her as “a true original,” “a legend,” and “utterly irreplaceable.” Kim Woodburn leaves behind a legacy of candour, courage, and unmatched sparkle in the world of British television.
