In a recent interview with HELLO! magazine, Ramsey shared: “I want to make things visible and I want to use my platform for good reasons. For me, it’s all about being authentic, because I want people to know me as a person, not just some fabricated version of myself.”
‘Game of Thrones’ star Bella Ramsey has opened up about their personal journey and commitment to authenticity as they navigate the pressures of rising fame.
The 21-year-old actor, best known for their acclaimed portrayal of Ellie in HBO’s The Last of Us, has vowed to present an honest version of themselves to the world. Ramsey, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, has been vocal about their gender identity and neurodivergence, while also striving to maintain a healthy level of privacy.
In a recent interview with HELLO! magazine, Ramsey shared: “I want to make things visible and I want to use my platform for good reasons. For me, it’s all about being authentic, because I want people to know me as a person, not just some fabricated version of myself.”
They added, “The important balance is being authentic while maintaining a certain level of privacy, which I’ve thankfully managed to do so far.”
Ramsey returns in the highly anticipated second season of The Last of Us, portraying Ellie — now a 19-year-old navigating the harsh realities of a post-apocalyptic world. Speaking to Female First UK, the actor admitted feeling increased pressure following the overwhelming success of the first season, which premiered in 2023.
“It’s a little bit scary,” they said. “When season one came out, obviously it was this huge thing. So I think I’m just so aware of season two coming out and everybody looking at it and looking at me, and it’s quite scary.”
Reflecting on their character’s evolution, Ramsey noted, “Obviously, a lot has changed in those five years. Ellie was 14 and is now 19. In any teenager’s life, those are always the formative years, so that definitely informed it.”
Despite their rising profile, Ramsey has never felt entirely comfortable in the spotlight. In a candid conversation with Interview magazine, they confessed: “It’s always felt quite trivial, and I’ve never really enjoyed it… I was so terrified of signing on to The Last of Us and the idea of reaching a level of fame that doesn’t go away.”
However, they’ve come to terms with the nature of fame. “You reach this level of fame that stays for a few months while the show’s coming out, and then it does sort of die off. If you don’t do anything to maintain that level of fame, the world moves on — which I’m so grateful for,” they said.
As they continue to balance authenticity and career, Ramsey remains a thoughtful and inspiring presence in the entertainment industry.
