Pitt revealed that The Adventures of Cliff Booth will begin principal photography in July, with Netflix backing the production. “Should be really fun,” he said of the shoot, offering minimal but intriguing details about the story
Brad Pitt has confirmed that The Adventures of Cliff Booth, his upcoming collaboration with director David Fincher, will not be a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but rather “an episode” expanding on the character introduced in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film.
Speaking to Deadline, Pitt, 61, shared that the idea for the new film came from Tarantino himself. “This is something Quentin Tarantino wrote. It’s an episode, not really a sequel, of the character from Once Upon A Time,” Pitt explained, adding that Tarantino chose not to direct the project. Instead, longtime collaborator and acclaimed filmmaker David Fincher stepped in to helm the film.

Casting news suggests a strong ensemble is coming together. Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, and Scott Caan are all attached, though their roles remain under wraps. Reports suggest the film will feature two significant female characters — one who runs a bar and mud wrestling establishment, and another who is a trophy wife — but it is still unclear which actors will take on these roles.
The film also marks a reunion for Pitt and Scott Caan, who previously appeared together in the Ocean’s franchise. While Leonardo DiCaprio’s return as Rick Dalton has not been confirmed, the film is still deeply rooted in the world first imagined in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. That said, due to character rights resting with Tarantino and not Sony — the original film’s distributor — The Adventures of Cliff Booth is not technically a sequel or prequel.
As Tarantino has stepped back from directing and shelved his long-planned The Movie Critic, Cliff Booth will not count toward his self-imposed ten-film directorial cap. For now, fans can look forward to seeing Pitt’s enigmatic stuntman ride again — just not under Tarantino’s direction.
