As a spin-off of FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed 2022 RPG Elden Ring, Nightreign promises to immerse players in an intense co-op multiplayer experience, where they must fight their way through a brutal, unforgiving world
The much-anticipated multiplayer survival spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, is officially set for release on May 30, 2025. The game, developed by FromSoftware, will launch across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
As a spin-off of FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed 2022 RPG Elden Ring, Nightreign promises to immerse players in an intense co-op multiplayer experience, where they must fight their way through a brutal, unforgiving world. Set in a universe parallel to the events of the original Elden Ring, the game challenges players to survive a three-day cycle while exploring the vast expanse of Limveld, a new environment full of danger and mystery.
The game will feature nighttime boss fights, with players facing powerful enemies that require strategic combat and teamwork. To advance, players must survive two of these formidable encounters before taking on one of eight Nightlords, the game’s most challenging bosses.
In a departure from Elden Ring’s traditional open-world structure, Nightreign will also include a “small number” of enemies from FromSoftware’s legendary Dark Souls series, adding a familiar touch for longtime fans of the developer’s fantasy universes.
Despite these high stakes and its roguelike elements, FromSoftware emphasizes that Elden Ring: Nightreign is not “chasing a trend.” Rather, the studio is focused on distilling the experience down to the core pillars of RPG gameplay: exploration, character building, leveling, and culminating in boss fights, all wrapped in a more concentrated form.
Director Junya Ishizaki shared his vision for the game in an interview with PC Gamer, stating, “The focus was condensing this experience down—the RPG elements, the exploration, the character building, and levelling. We wanted that to feel like it was all coming together and culminating in a boss fight but in a more concentrated form.”
With only three months until launch, Elden Ring: Nightreign is shaping up to be a highly anticipated title for both new players and Elden Ring veterans alike. Fans of FromSoftware’s unique brand of punishing gameplay can look forward to an intense, challenging adventure when the game releases this May.
