Longoria, who wasn’t a fashion follower early in her career, shared that she simply walked into a high street store in Los Angeles and picked up a dress
Eva Longoria has opened up about a fashion regret from her past, revealing that she once wore a $39 dress to the Cannes Film Festival, a decision she now wishes she could take back. The Desperate Housewives star recalled the moment in a recent interview with The Sunday Times, admitting that at the time, she didn’t fully understand the significance of walking the red carpet at the prestigious event.
Longoria, who wasn’t a fashion follower early in her career, shared that she simply walked into a high street store in Los Angeles and picked up a dress. “I went to Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles and bought a $39 dress because I was told I needed a dress,” she recalled. “It looked amazing, and people were like: ‘Who are you wearing?’ I thought, why are they asking me that? It was this gold knit dress.”
At the time, Longoria was an ambassador for beauty brand L’Oreal, and her dress caught the attention of the company. She revealed that the team at L’Oreal was quick to suggest they style her for future events, commenting, “Even L’Oreal were like: ‘Maybe next time we style you.'”
Looking back, Longoria admits that she “really didn’t understand the gravity of that red carpet,” and now sees the moment as a fashion misstep.
In the interview, the actress also discussed her personal style preferences, explaining that she isn’t one to follow trends. Instead, she prefers “classic styles and comfort.” She went on to share that her ultimate style icon is her close friend Victoria Beckham. “Victoria Beckham. She is my style icon. I aspire to be like her one day, and I never will,” Longoria said, acknowledging Beckham’s influence on her fashion choices.
Though she may have regretted that $39 dress, Longoria’s journey in fashion shows how much her personal style has evolved, with lessons learned along the way.
