iPhone 17 Pro Rumored to Get Extended Camera Bar Design

While Prosser released a concept video of the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera design, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman pushed back against these claims, dismissing the design as a “fake” concept

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro, expected to debut in September 2025, may feature a radical redesign of its camera system, according to renowned leaker Jon Prosser. In a report by FrontPageTech, Prosser claims that the next generation of Pro models will sport an all-new camera bar design, taking inspiration from Google’s Pixel series.

The design will reportedly extend the camera bar horizontally across the back of the device, with the three camera lenses positioned on the left. Meanwhile, the flash, LiDAR Scanner, and microphone will be moved to the right side. This design shift is said to enhance the overall aesthetics of the phone, though earlier reports suggested Apple was considering a more evenly spread horizontal camera layout. However, Prosser explained that this layout wouldn’t be feasible due to space limitations caused by the Face ID sensors.

While Prosser released a concept video of the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera design, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman pushed back against these claims, dismissing the design as a “fake” concept. Despite this, the tech world is eagerly awaiting further leaks and official announcements as Apple prepares to unveil the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and the rumored iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to be the company’s thinnest iPhone yet.
In addition to its next-gen iPhone developments, Apple has also shown significant growth in the global refurbished smartphone market. According to Counterpoint Research’s latest report, Apple strengthened its leadership in the secondary market, capturing 56% of global refurbished smartphone sales in 2024, up from 51% in 2023. The company’s growth was mainly driven by older models like the iPhone 11 and 12 series, as consumers turned to the refurbished market for affordable iPhones.

The overall global refurbished smartphone market grew by 5% in 2024, while the new smartphone market only saw a 3% year-on-year increase. Apple’s dominance in the refurbished market reflects a growing preference for high-quality trade-ins, as well as a supply shortage of newer iPhone models. This supply crunch led to an 11% drop in the average selling price (ASP) of refurbished smartphones, highlighting Apple’s impact on the market.

Meanwhile, the surge in demand for 5G smartphones is notable, with 5G devices accounting for 42% of the global refurbished smartphone market in 2024, up from 28% the previous year. However, limited availability of newer iPhone models has held this share back. With innovations in both design and market growth, Apple continues to assert its dominance in the tech space, shaping the future of smartphones both in the new and secondary markets.
