Catherine’s fashion has long been praised by both fans and the media, though she has received some critical remarks, particularly concerning her choice of jewellery
Catherine, Princess of Wales, will no longer have her outfit details shared during royal engagements, Kensington Palace has announced. The 43-year-old royal, renowned for her elegant style, has often attracted attention for the brands she wears, such as Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham, Prada, Zara, and Marks & Spencer.
However, the Palace is shifting focus away from what she wears, emphasizing the importance of her public work rather than her fashion choices. A spokesperson told The Sunday Times: “There is an absolute feeling that it [the public-facing work] is not about what the princess is wearing.”
Catherine’s fashion has long been praised by both fans and the media, though she has received some critical remarks, particularly concerning her choice of jewellery. Fashion critic Suzy Menkes, 81, expressed disappointment over the princess’ approach to accessories. Speaking on Creative Conversations, Menkes shared that Catherine “only puts [jewels] on when she absolutely has to” and lacks the enthusiasm for jewellery that Queen Camilla displays.
Menkes explained: “She doesn’t give any sense of adoring jewellery and being pleased to put it on. She doesn’t seem to have Camilla’s joy at wearing jewellery.”
Suzy also expressed confusion over why Catherine wouldn’t embrace the lavish royal jewels at her disposal. “We now have a new Queen, so presumably she has a first opportunity to look at the jewels,” Menkes remarked. “Will we see Catherine wearing jewellery that is more dramatic, that is more personal to her? I don’t know.”
Despite the critique, Catherine remains a style icon for many, known for her timeless and sophisticated approach to fashion. However, as the focus shifts to her public duties, it’s clear that Kensington Palace aims to steer the attention away from her wardrobe and towards her important work as a royal figure.
