Pop star Sabrina Carpenter has achieved a major career milestone with her latest single “Manchild,” which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 — marking her first-ever chart-topper on release and her second overall number-one single.
“Manchild” leads the way for Carpenter’s upcoming album Man’s Best Friend, due out August 29. Released on June 5, the track racked up 27 million official streams, earned 14 million radio airplay audience impressions, and sold 20,000 digital copies in the U.S. It was also released on a limited edition 7-inch vinyl, with 14,000 copies sold — featuring the exclusive B-side track Inside of Your Head When You’ve Just Won an Argument with a Man.
This success follows her previous number-one hit “Please Please Please,” a single from her Grammy-winning 2024 album Short n’ Sweet, which topped the Hot 100 for a week around the same time last year.
Carpenter reflected on the making of “Manchild” in a heartfelt Instagram post, revealing it was written during a casual session with producer Jack Antonoff and songwriter Amy Allen. “I wrote ‘Manchild’ on a random Tuesday with Amy and Jack not too long after finishing Short n’ Sweet, and it ended up being the best random Tuesday of my life,” she shared.
Describing the track as “the song embodiment of a loving eye roll,” Carpenter said it captures the essence of young adulthood — full of confusion, amusement, and reflection. “It feels like a never-ending road trip in the summer. Hence why I wanted to give it to you now — so you can stick your head out the car window and scream it all summer long!” she wrote.
Aside from “Manchild,” no other new singles broke into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 this week, underlining the power of Carpenter’s latest release. Sabrina Carpenter first rose to fame in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World and released her debut single “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying” in 2014. Since then, she’s built a strong pop career with albums including Eyes Wide Open, Evolution, and Singular: Act I & II. Her 2024 breakout album Short n’ Sweet debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and delivered hit singles “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” and “Taste,” solidifying her place among today’s top pop acts.
With “Manchild” setting the tone for her next chapter, Carpenter continues her ascent in the music world — blending catchy pop with sharp storytelling and undeniable star power.
