Sarah Jessica Parker Inspires

Her statement strikes at the heart of a narrative still lacking in much of mainstream media—that women’s stories don’t end after a certain age, but rather, evolve

Sarah Jessica Parker, the iconic star of Sex and the City, is once again making waves with her bold and empowering message as she returns as Carrie Bradshaw in the newest season of And Just Like That…. Speaking to Sky News, Parker shared an uplifting truth that often goes unspoken: “You don’t flat line at 50 or 60.”

Parker, 59, emphasized how women continue to lead rich, dynamic lives well beyond middle age. “People are living pretty colourful, interesting, exciting lives and they have influence and authority. They’re trying new things. They’re leaving marriages. They’re saying goodbye to kids. They’re starting new jobs, they’re leaving jobs, and they’re getting married, they are widows—there’s just endless amounts to talk about, and it should be,” she said.

Her statement strikes at the heart of a narrative still lacking in much of mainstream media—that women’s stories don’t end after a certain age, but rather, evolve. Parker’s co-star Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York in the franchise, echoed the sentiment. Davis pointed out that And Just Like That… stands almost alone in showcasing the full spectrum of life for women in their 50s and 60s.

“It is insane that there aren’t more shows like us, you know? I’m hoping that there will be,” Davis said. “It’s very interesting that somehow women, especially at a certain age, you’re just supposed to just vanish. I don’t know where we’re supposed to be and that just makes no sense.”

The show not only brings back familiar characters but also reinvigorates conversations around age, gender, identity, and reinvention.
Off-screen, Davis also revealed the close bond she shares with Parker and how it impacts even their public appearances. Speaking on her podcast Are You a Charlotte?, she said, “I need to know what Sarah Jessica’s gonna wear to our different events, because she might be wearing something that is, like, way dressier than what I pictured in my mind, and I hate to be out of sync with her.”

Though dressing up may feel like a chore to some, Davis finds joy in it, especially when it’s connected to work. “There’s a part of me always, like, ‘Oh my gosh, why do I have to dress up so much all the time?’ But on the other hand, it’s fun to dress up. And in life, I really don’t dress up at all. So when we haven’t worked for a while, then we go back to work and we get to get in all the clothes, I love it so much, because I don’t do it that much.”
With both stars embracing their evolving roles in life and on screen, And Just Like That… continues to be not just a series revival, but a celebration of womanhood across decades.
