Simone Ashley on Her Dream Role in New Rom-Com ‘Picture This’

Picture This centers around Pia, a photographer struggling to find both true love and career success

Simone Ashley, known for her breakout role in Netflix’s Bridgerton, has shared her excitement about starring in the new romantic comedy Picture This, revealing that she has always dreamed of joining the genre. The 29-year-old actress plays Pia, a passionate and ambitious photographer who embarks on a journey of self-discovery and love.

In an interview with Collider, Ashley explained that her decision to take on the role was an easy one. “I’ve always been really drawn to characters like Pia,” she said. “She’s super passionate, fiery, and ambitious, and that gave her a strong drive throughout the story.” Ashley also found herself captivated by the comedy in the script, recalling how she was laughing out loud as she read it. “I grew up watching rom-coms, so I always wanted to be part of that world,” she added. “As soon as I read it, it was a no-brainer for me.”

Picture This centers around Pia, a photographer struggling to find both true love and career success. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she is told that both will come to her within the next five dates. For Ashley, the role offered more than just comedic moments. It taught her important lessons about storytelling, particularly when it comes to the delicate balance between humor and heart.

“There was a lot of trust in the simplicity of everything,” Ashley reflected on the project. “Especially in a rom-com, we leaned into the comedy without overdoing it or feeling like we had to tamper with it too much.”

The actress also emphasized the importance of letting the comedy naturally unfold, a lesson she believes is essential to bringing the genre to life on screen. As Picture This prepares for release, Ashley’s enthusiasm for the project is clear. “Every project I do has a special place in my heart,” she said. With her deep love for rom-coms, it seems that Ashley’s dream role has finally come true.
