Spacey Shuns Hollywood Haters

Spacey’s career came to a grinding halt in 2017 after allegations of sexual misconduct led to his firing from the Netflix series House of Cards. He denied the accusations

Kevin Spacey has broken his silence on the toll his controversies have taken on his career, making it clear he won’t be working with Hollywood figures who were quick to judge him.

The two-time Oscar winner, 65, addressed his past legal troubles and future plans during a rare onstage appearance at the Italian Global Series Festival (IGSF) in Rimini, Italy. In conversation with festival Artistic Director Marco Spagnoli, Spacey said he was “incredibly excited about going back to work in a substantial way,” according to People magazine.

Spacey’s career came to a grinding halt in 2017 after allegations of sexual misconduct led to his firing from the Netflix series House of Cards. He denied the accusations. Since then, he has been cleared of sexual abuse charges in New York in 2022 and acquitted in a 2023 sexual assault case in London.

Reflecting on those years, Spacey shared, “These experiences have allowed me to stop, assess, reassess and listen, and be very grateful for the work I’m able to do both on screen and off screen.”

He expressed deep appreciation for those in the entertainment industry who stood by him through his legal battles. “I’m filled with gratitude for those in my industry who stood by me — those individuals who were willing to wait for an outcome in the courts before they decided how they felt about me,” he said. “Those people have my trust, and I will do everything I can to maintain their trust for the rest of my life.”

Several notable actors, including Sharon Stone, Liam Neeson, and Brian Cox, have spoken out in support of Spacey’s return to the screen.
However, Spacey didn’t hold back when addressing those in Hollywood who distanced themselves prematurely. “There are those who rushed to judgment and decided I was guilty, and treated me accordingly,” he said. “They have my forgiveness, but I am not seeking them out to collaborate.”
Though still a polarising figure, Spacey appears focused on rebuilding his career on his own terms. With renewed public appearances and backing from a few influential allies, he is cautiously stepping back into the spotlight — but with boundaries firmly in place.
