KannadigaruUK, the leading community organisation for Kannadigas in the UK, celebrated Ugadi 2025 and International Dance Day with great enthusiasm at Feltham, London on Sunday, 27th April 2025. The vibrant event, attended by over 100 members of the Karnataka diaspora, beautifully blended tradition, culture, and a commitment to community service.
The day began on a solemn note, with a one-minute silence observed to pay tribute and express deepest condolences to the victims and families affected by the recent terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir, India.
Attendees then enjoyed a traditional Karnataka-style lunch served on banana leaves, bringing a slice of home to London and celebrating Ugadi—the Kannada New Year—in its authentic spirit.

The event was further enriched by a Dance Festival, marking International Dance Day, with splendid performances by community members showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Karnataka through classical, folk, and contemporary dance forms.

A highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of Mrs. Revathi Kamath, renowned environmentalist and mother of Zerodha founders Nithin and Nikhil Kamath. Mrs. Kamath was honoured for her exceptional contributions to environmental conservation and green initiatives in Karnataka. After a distinguished 23-year career as a floral artist, event manager, and landscaping specialist, Mrs. Kamath dedicated herself to environmental causes, including planting over one lakh trees and rejuvenating the Somanahalli Lake, benefiting the local ecosystem and communities.
“Celebrating our roots while nurturing the future—Ugadi 2025 was a powerful blend of culture, community, and environmental consciousness.”

Mrs. Kamath was felicitated in the esteemed presence of Mrs. Seema Malhotra, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Migration and Citizenship) and (Minister for Equalities), UK Government. Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Malhotra congratulated KannadigaruUK for its continued service in promoting Kannada language and culture abroad and lauded the organisation’s commitment to community welfare.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Revathi Kamath shared inspiring insights into her journey of environmental activism, stressing the importance of tree planting and water conservation initiatives for future generations.
The Ugadi and Dance Festival 2025 proved to be a memorable celebration, reinforcing the community’s commitment to cultural preservation, social responsibility, and global harmony.
