In addition to the live shows, Goldberg also shared new details about the long-awaited sequel Sister Act 3, including a touching tribute to the late Dame Maggie Smith
Whoopi Goldberg is returning to the UK stage for the first time in a decade, announcing two live performances this September as part of her new show, Whoopi Goldberg: Live. The award-winning actress, comedian, activist, and philanthropist will take the stage at London’s Eventim Apollo on September 4, followed by a show at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena on September 5.
According to Female First UK, the shows will feature Goldberg sharing stories from her extraordinary career, marked by pioneering roles, social activism, and sharp-witted humour. In a special segment, audiences will also get the opportunity to ask the legendary Sister Act and Ghost star their own questions.
“I’ve always loved performing for UK audiences,” Goldberg said in a statement. “I can’t wait to take the stage at these two incredible venues and share some stories, some laughs, and maybe even a little truth.”
The shows mark a rare and eagerly awaited return to the UK for Goldberg, 69, who is one of the few entertainers to have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award. Her career spans stage, screen, and television, and she is known for her candid voice on topics ranging from civil rights to pop culture.
In addition to the live shows, Goldberg also shared new details about the long-awaited sequel Sister Act 3, including a touching tribute to the late Dame Maggie Smith. Goldberg, who reprises her iconic role as Sister Mary Clarence in the upcoming Disney+ film, revealed during an appearance on Italian talk show Che Tempo Che Fa that the script has been rewritten to honour Smith, who died in September 2024 at the age of 89. Smith portrayed Reverend Mother in the original Sister Act films.
“I hope so,” Goldberg said when asked if any scenes for Sister Act 3 might be filmed in Italy. “It would be wonderful because we want to do it for a couple of reasons. Because we lost Maggie, you know, and we want to bring all the nuns here to kind of share that. It’s the perfect place. Italy is the perfect place. We are waiting for Disney to say yes or no. Keep your fingers crossed.”
The Sister Act franchise remains one of Goldberg’s most beloved works. The first film, released in 1992, starred Goldberg as Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer who is placed in witness protection in a convent and transforms a struggling choir into a sensation. The film was a global box office hit, grossing $232 million. The 1993 sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, cemented its cult status. Now, decades later, fans can look forward to both Goldberg’s return to the UK stage and a heartfelt revival of a beloved classic — with laughter, legacy, and tribute at its core.
