Bexley Joins the Great British Spring Clean to Keep Borough Green

Bexley is gearing up to take part in the Great British Spring Clean 2025, a nationwide initiative run by Keep Britain Tidy, encouraging communities to come together and clean up their local areas.

This year’s campaign, running from 21 March to 6 April, carries the theme: The environment belongs to everyone, highlighting the shared responsibility of keeping public spaces clean and litter-free.

Millions of volunteers across the UK will take part in litter-picking events, and Bexley is joining the effort with a series of community and school litter picks across the borough. These events provide an opportunity for residents to take pride in some of Bexley’s most beloved green spaces while making a tangible difference to the local environment.

As part of the campaign, the council has organised several litter-picking events at key locations. Volunteers can lend a hand at Franks Park in Belvedere, Whitehall Open Space in Erith, East Wickham Open Space, Danson Park, and Foots Cray Meadows, among others.

Participants can find out more details, including exact meeting points and times, on the Eventbrite website and are encouraged to pre-register, although walk-ins on the day are also welcome.

To ensure volunteers have everything they need, Bexley Council will provide high-visibility vests, gloves, bag loops, blue bags, and litter pickers. Those who prefer to bring their own equipment are welcome to do so.

For those looking to make a long-term commitment to keeping Bexley clean, the council is also encouraging residents to sign up as community litter pickers.

More than 300 locals have already joined the initiative, playing a crucial role in maintaining the borough’s parks and open spaces. Anyone interested in volunteering can apply through the council’s Community Litter Picker application form.

The Great British Spring Clean is not just about picking up litter—it’s about fostering a sense of community, protecting the environment, and ensuring that public spaces remain clean and welcoming for everyone.

Whether joining a one-off event or becoming a regular volunteer, Bexley residents have the chance to be part of a nationwide movement making a real difference.
