Bibi Khan MBE was recognised among the UK’s most pioneering women at a special International Women’s Day reception held at 10 Downing Street. The event, hosted by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, celebrated women who have shattered glass ceilings and made significant contributions in their respective fields.
As the first female president of a mosque in the UK, leading the London Islamic Cultural Society in Hornsey, and chairperson of the North London Council of Mosques, Bibi Khan has played a pivotal role in community leadership. Her invitation to this prestigious event highlights her remarkable contributions to religious and interfaith engagement.
The reception was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, and notable figures such as two-time Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes and Jessikah Inaba, the UK’s first blind, Black female barrister.

Expressing her gratitude, Bibi Khan said, “I’m deeply honoured that my work as a female mosque president and community leader has been recognised by the Prime Minister. It’s essential to show women and girls that anything is possible when we trust the Almighty.” She also thanked her nominators for bringing her achievements to national attention.
Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Ajda Ovat, praised Khan’s contributions, calling her a “trailblazer” and applauding her well-deserved recognition. “Bibi’s MBE is a testament to her impact in Haringey, and it is only fitting that she is celebrated among the country’s most inspirational women.”
Haringey Council extended its congratulations to Bibi Khan, acknowledging her ongoing efforts to strengthen community ties and empower women across faith and cultural boundaries.
