Ed Sheeran backs West Kensington music school

With Ed Sheeran’s funding boost, the Foundation is poised to make a lasting impact, giving more children access to transformative musical opportunities.

The Rhythm Studio Foundation, a contemporary music academy in West Kensington, has received a funding boost from the Ed Sheeran Foundation to support music education for disadvantaged children. The grant will fund the Foundation’s Primary Schools Workshop programme for the next three years.

“I want kids to have the opportunity to learn instruments, explore production and songwriting, perform, and access apprenticeship schemes that equip them with the skills needed to enter the industry.”
-Ed Sheeran

The initiative provides opportunities for 8-11-year-olds in London state primary schools, many of which have limited access to music education. Half of the participating schools are located in the 20 most deprived areas of London. With this support, approximately 1,800 students will have the chance to create and perform music using professional studios, equipment, and expert teaching.

Ed Sheeran expressed his enthusiasm for the programme, saying: “I want kids to have the opportunity to learn instruments, explore production and songwriting, perform, and access apprenticeship schemes that equip them with the skills needed to enter the industry.”

In May 2024, the singer made a surprise visit to The Rhythm Studio Foundation to witness its work first-hand.

He joined pupils from Addison Primary School during their workshop session and even treated them to an intimate performance. The lucky audience, which included sixth formers and staff, enjoyed Sheeran’s acoustic renditions of his hits “Castle On The Hill” and “Perfect.”
The Rhythm Studio Foundation, the charitable arm of The Rhythm Studio, operates from its base on Gliddon Road, W14. Its workshops aim to inspire young students through music, fostering creativity and confidence while addressing the lack of music education in many schools.
With Ed Sheeran’s backing, the Foundation is poised to make a lasting impact, giving more children access to transformative musical opportunities.
