Enfield Marks International Women’s Day with a Call for Action

Enfield Council is celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD), recognising the achievements of women and highlighting the need for continued progress towards gender equality.

Cllr Gina Needs, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Cohesion, said the 2024 theme, “Accelerate Action,” underscores the urgency of breaking down systemic barriers and biases women face in their personal and professional lives.

“As Enfield residents, we can all make a difference by challenging discrimination, questioning bias, and celebrating women’s success,” she said.

Cllr Needs also stressed the importance of education, training, and participation in sport for women and girls, calling on the community to reflect on the benefits of inclusivity.

To mark the occasion, Enfield Council will fly the International Women’s Day flag outside the Civic Centre as a symbol of solidarity.

2024 Pay Gap Report: Commitment to Equality

Enfield Council has reaffirmed its dedication to tackling inequality and fostering an inclusive workplace, following the publication of its 2024 Pay Gap Report. The latest findings show that the Council’s gender pay gap is better than many other public sector organisations, reflecting its continued efforts towards fairness and equality.

Gina Needs, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Cohesion

Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Cohesion, Cllr Gina Needs, welcomed the progress while acknowledging there is more to be done. “We remain dedicated to creating a fair workplace as this will enable us to continue delivering high-quality services to our communities,” she said.

Enfield Council has long been ahead of legal requirements by voluntarily publishing ethnicity and disability pay gap reports, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and inclusivity. The insights from these reports shape the Council’s pay and reward systems, recruitment processes, and staff development programmes.

Key initiatives include anonymous recruitment shortlisting, structured pay bands, and support for flexible working. The Council also provides enhanced parental leave policies and training opportunities, including apprenticeship programmes and leadership development schemes.

Through its Fairer Enfield Policy and Workforce Strategy, the Council continues to prioritise equal opportunities and workplace diversity, ensuring an environment where all employees can thrive.
