Fly-tipper faces the music

A man who dumped household waste on a public road in Edmonton has been successfully prosecuted thanks to CCTV footage captured by Enfield Council’s Waste Enforcement Team.

Ion Prundaru, 55, formerly of Enfield and now living in Ilford, was filmed on the evening of 6 July 2024 unloading rubbish from a white van on Kenninghall Road. The mobile surveillance cameras provided clear evidence of the fly-tipping, prompting swift investigation and legal action.

On 17 April 2025, Prundaru pleaded guilty at Thames Magistrates’ Court, where he was sentenced to a 12-month Community Order with 60 hours of unpaid work. In addition, he was ordered to pay £800 in Council costs and a £114 victim surcharge.

The case had originally been listed on 6 February 2025 at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court, but Prundaru failed to attend. A warrant for his arrest was issued, and he was subsequently arrested on 16 April, spending 24 hours in custody before being brought before the court.

Councillor Rick Jewell, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Waste, said:

“We are working hard to achieve cleaner streets. We are using all of our powers to tackle individuals who dump rubbish on our roads.
I would like to thank the Council’s waste enforcement team for their hard work in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
The message is clear. If you illegally dump your rubbish on our streets, we will find you and we will prosecute you.”

Residents are encouraged to report incidents of illegal dumping to help the Council continue its enforcement work.
