Free bulky waste collections for Wandsworth residents

Every household in Wandsworth now gets two free bulky waste collections a year, saving families £47 each, in an ambitious new move to achieve cleaner streets across the borough.

Wandsworth Council has introduced a new initiative offering two free bulky waste collections per year for every household, aiming to keep streets cleaner and make waste disposal easier. The scheme saves families £47 annually and aligns with the council’s commitment to delivering better services without increasing Council Tax.

The bulky waste collection service allows residents to dispose of larger items such as mattresses, furniture, washing machines, fridges, and freezers. Each free collection can include up to four items, ensuring that households can efficiently manage their waste.
Cleaner Streets Initiative

The popular Mega Skip Days, which take place twice a month, have also been expanded, providing residents with additional options for disposing of waste conveniently. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the free collections by booking a slot, with collection days aligning with usual rubbish and recycling schedules. With a significant increase in the number of daily appointments, most residents will not need to wait more than a week for their collection.
Customer Service Guarantee
Alongside the waste collection improvements, Wandsworth Council has launched its 7 Rings, 7 Days Guarantee to ensure better customer service. Calls to the council’s dedicated number (020 8871 6000) will now be answered within seven rings, and emails sent to hello@wandsworth.gov.uk will receive prompt responses.

Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Environment, highlighted the importance of this new measure: “We know cleaner streets are a big priority for residents. Our new bulky waste offer is part of our promise to deliver the best possible service we can. As part of our Cleaner Borough Plan, we are retaining weekly waste and recycling collections, expanding our popular Mega Skip Days, and doing it all without adding a penny to your Council Tax.”

Simon Hogg, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said: “The 7 rings, 7 days guarantee is here to make it easier to contact us and to assure residents that if you report issues such as graffiti, a dangerous pothole, or a broken street sign, we will take swift action to fix it. Together, we can keep Wandsworth special.” Reported issues like graffiti or potholes will be resolved within seven days, reflecting the council’s commitment to swift action and neighbourhood pride.

This initiative is part of Wandsworth’s broader Cleaner Borough Plan, ensuring residents have the tools and services needed to maintain a clean, welcoming community.
