Friends, family, and community members gathered to honour the life and legacy of Erline Prescott, Haringey’s first Black female Mayor, at her funeral this week. Erline, a trailblazing figure in the borough, passed away in November, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of public service and advocacy.
Erline served as a ward councillor for West Green across two decades, from 1990 to 1998 and again from 2002 to 2006. She became Deputy Mayor in 1993, paving the way for her historic appointment as Haringey’s first Black female Mayor in 1994. She held the office twice, with a second term from 2003 to 2004.
Renowned for her warm personality and unwavering commitment to the community, Erline was a passionate advocate for Haringey’s children and young people, championing their rights and well-being throughout her career.
