Harrow Streets Plug into the Future

Harrow is rolling out 100 on-street EV charging points in partnership with Trojan Energy, making it easier, faster, and safer for residents to power electric vehicles near their homes

Harrow is going electric in a big way, with the rollout of 100 brand-new electric vehicle (EV) charging points now underway across the borough. The initiative is a key part of Harrow Council’s push to promote greener transport and make it easier for residents to switch to electric or hybrid cars.

Delivered in partnership with Trojan Energy, the innovative scheme is designed with convenience, safety and accessibility in mind. The on-street chargers are flush with the pavement when not in use, meaning there’s no visual clutter or trip hazards for pedestrians. Drivers simply plug in using their personal adapter—no apps or cards required—and can enjoy fast charging speeds of up to 22kW before heading back on the road.

Councillor David Ashton, Harrow Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance and Highways, said: “This will be welcoming news for residents. Not everyone has a driveway, so this is significant infrastructure that will help people charge their cars near their home. It’s great for the environment, great for sustainable travel, and doesn’t clutter the streets.”
“This is one of many ways we are putting residents first, by making it easier for those thinking about switching to electric or hybrid,” he added.

The project has been made possible through funding from the government’s On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS), which supports councils across the country in providing accessible EV infrastructure. With growing demand for greener travel options, the new chargers offer a future-ready solution that meets the needs of local communities—particularly those without off-street parking.

“This collaboration marks another meaningful step towards making reliable, accessible charging a standard feature of streets across the UK.”
-Ian Mackenzie, CEO, Trojan Energy

The rollout is expected to be completed later this year, forming a key part of Harrow’s wider climate and sustainability strategy.
Trojan Energy CEO Ian Mackenzie welcomed the collaboration, saying: “We’re pleased to be partnering with the London Borough of Harrow to deliver our clutter-free on-street EV charging to more residents. Our mission is to ensure everyone can benefit from the transition to electric vehicles, particularly those without access to off-street parking.”
“This collaboration marks another meaningful step towards making reliable, accessible charging a standard feature of streets across the UK,” he said. The installation marks a major move towards a cleaner, more sustainable Harrow—offering residents the power to plug in, charge up, and drive toward a greener future.
