H&F Expands Green Projects with New Investment Round

Following its success in raising £1.75 million—more than any other council in the UK—the initiative is returning with a fresh round of investment aimed at funding further improvements to streets and green spaces across the borough.

Residents and businesses in Hammersmith & Fulham will once again have the opportunity to invest in local sustainability projects while earning fixed returns, as the borough’s Green Investment scheme relaunched earlier this week.

Following its success in raising £1.75 million—more than any other council in the UK—the initiative is returning with a fresh round of investment aimed at funding further improvements to streets and green spaces across the borough. Investors will be able to contribute from as little as £5, with a fixed annual return over five years. The exact interest rate will be confirmed at the scheme’s launch.

Councillor Rowan Ree, H&F’s Cabinet Member for Finance and Reform, highlighted the dual benefits of the initiative: “Our Green Investment scheme makes money work for investors while also delivering real improvements for our local communities. We’ve already attracted much-needed funding to enhance our borough, and this next phase will continue that progress.”

Transforming H&F’s Streets and Green Spaces

Since its launch in November 2023, the scheme has already funded a range of projects aimed at making H&F’s streets safer, greener, and more resilient to climate change.

One key success has been the creation of a new community garden at Frank Banfield Park in Hammersmith. Developed in collaboration with a local Friends group, the space now features a 600-tree Tiny Forest and a habitat wall to support urban biodiversity.

Further improvements include the installation of rain gardens along King Street, designed to absorb rainfall, prevent flooding, and provide natural cooling in hot weather. Meanwhile, in Fulham, a section of Purcell Crescent is being transformed from tarmac into a thriving green space, offering residents a new recreational area while boosting local biodiversity.

The scheme has also played a vital role in promoting sustainable transport. So far, funding has supported the installation of 100 bike hangars across the borough, giving residents a secure way to store their bicycles and encouraging a shift away from car use.

Next Phase: Tackling Air Pollution

With the relaunch of H&F Green Investment, the next phase of projects will focus on further improving neighbourhoods, with a particular emphasis on tackling air pollution. By funding new green infrastructure and expanding environmentally friendly initiatives, the scheme aims to create cleaner, healthier streets for residents.

The investment programme aligns with H&F’s broader climate strategy, which seeks to make the borough more sustainable while offering residents a meaningful way to contribute to local environmental improvements.

With a proven track record of delivering tangible change, the Green Investment scheme is expected to attract strong interest from investors looking to support green projects while earning a stable financial return.
