The Council extended an invitation to the community to take part in the ceremony, highlighting the importance of remembering those affected by the pandemic while looking ahead with hope.
Hammersmith & Fulham Council will mark the Covid Day of Reflection on Monday, 10 March, with a special oak tree planting ceremony in Furnivall Gardens. The event, led by Council Leader Stephen Cowan, will begin at 10.30am and is open to all residents who wish to pay their respects.
Cllr Cowan extended an invitation to the community to take part in the ceremony, highlighting the importance of remembering those affected by the pandemic while looking ahead with hope. “The end of the pandemic was a real cause for optimism. It provided us with new insights, taught us valuable lessons, and showed us the opportunity we have to shape a better future for all. It also renewed our gratitude for our NHS, care workers, and public services. I invite everyone to come and watch the planting and pay their respects,” he said.
The oak tree will serve as a lasting memorial to all those in the borough impacted by Covid. A plaque will be placed beside it, inscribed with the words: “For Those We Lost To Covid, And For Those They Left Behind.”
The commemoration will also extend beyond Furnivall Gardens, with Charing Cross Hospital set to be illuminated over the weekend of 8 and 9 March. The lighting display will honour the dedication of healthcare workers and the resilience of patients who faced the challenges of the pandemic.
Residents affected by Covid-19 and in need of support can find information and resources on the government’s dedicated webpage.
