Hillingdon acquires new homes in Uxbridge

In a significant move to address housing needs in the borough, Hillingdon Council has acquired 12 newly built homes at Carpenters Court, located off Chippendale Way in Uxbridge.

The acquisition was supported by a £1.2 million grant from the Greater London Authority (GLA), furthering the council’s commitment to providing secure housing for its residents. This latest addition brings the total number of new council homes acquired by Hillingdon in the 2024/25 financial year to an impressive 185.

The newly acquired properties comprise one-, two-, and three-bedroom flats designed to offer modern, sustainable, and comfortable living. Each flat comes fully furnished with essential white goods and is equipped with electric panel heating systems that can be controlled remotely via a mobile device. In an effort to reduce energy costs and support environmentally friendly living, the homes also feature solar panels, which will provide a sustainable energy source for residents.

This week, the leader of Hillingdon Council, Ian Edwards, and the Cabinet Member for Planning, Housing, and Growth, Councillor Steve Tuckwell, visited Carpenters Court to formally mark the handover of the site from Kearns Development. Speaking at the event, Cllr Tuckwell emphasized the importance of the new homes in addressing the borough’s housing challenges.

“These flats will be allocated to residents with the highest priority on our housing register,” Tuckwell stated. “However, demand for homes in the borough remains very high, and for many residents, the best chance of finding a secure home is through the private rented sector. If you are worried about your housing situation or are at risk of homelessness, it’s vital to act immediately. Don’t wait until you are homeless to seek support.”

The new homes at Carpenters Court represent Hillingdon Council’s ongoing efforts to tackle the rising demand for housing in the area. With an increasing number of residents on the housing register, the local authority continues to prioritize sustainable and long-term solutions. The council is encouraging those facing housing difficulties to reach out for support as early as possible, highlighting the range of assistance available for residents.

The £1.2 million funding from the GLA underscores the collaborative effort between local and regional authorities to address London’s housing crisis. As the borough continues to expand its housing portfolio, it also sets an example of how innovative and sustainable measures can be integrated into urban housing solutions.

By combining modern technology with a focus on sustainability, the new flats at Carpenters Court not only address immediate housing needs but also pave the way for a greener and more energy-efficient future for Hillingdon’s residents.
