Labour candidate Charlotte Elizabeth Daus has won the Burnt Oak ward by-election, strengthening her party’s hold on Barnet Council. The result was officially declared yesterday at the council’s headquarters in Colindale.
Daus’s victory maintains Labour’s majority on the council, which now comprises 40 Labour members, 19 Conservatives, and three councillors unaffiliated with any political group. One seat remains vacant in the Finchley Church End ward.
The by-election, triggered following changes in the ward’s representation, saw a low turnout of 17.3 per cent. Despite the modest voter participation, the result reinforces Labour’s control of the borough, with the party continuing to outnumber its rivals significantly.
