Lambeth Elders Lead the Way on Healthy Ageing

Older residents in Lambeth came together this month to share their insights on staying healthy during hot weather and to prepare for Age Without Limits Day on 11 June — a national celebration that highlights positive ageing and challenges ageism.

Hosted by the Age Friendly Lambeth Forum, the event included discussions on how the borough can better support its older population as summer temperatures rise. Attendees reflected on the importance of clear and accessible health advice during heatwaves, and how barriers to staying cool can be addressed through improved communication and community support.

The forum also explored how to best celebrate ageing in Lambeth, from honouring the Windrush Generation’s legacy to recognising the vital role older residents play as volunteers, caregivers, and cultural leaders.

As part of its ongoing Age Friendly Strategy, Lambeth Council is gathering resident feedback to shape its communications and heat-risk adaptation plans. Future forums will continue both online and in person, ensuring everyone can contribute.

Cllr Tim Windle, joint Cabinet Member for Healthier Communities, said: “This work is about listening and making Lambeth a place we can all call home — at any age.”
