Revenue from fines will be reinvested in local transport improvements, including road and pavement upgrades
Fines for parking and traffic violations across London will increase from 7 April 2025 to discourage dangerous and inconsiderate driving. The new charges aim to bring fines in line with Transport for London’s (TfL) road network rates.
From 7 April, higher-level fines in Band A areas will increase from £130 to £160, while Band B areas will see an increase from £110 to £140. Lower-level fines in Band A will rise from £80 to £110, and in Band B from £60 to £90.
London boroughs apply higher penalties for more serious violations, such as obstructing roads, while minor offenses like overstaying in parking bays carry lower fines. A 50% discount will still apply to all fines if paid within 14 days.
Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) have increased by 50% over the last 12 years, but fines have remained unchanged since 2011 despite rising enforcement costs. PCNs are viewed as essential for reducing congestion, improving air quality, encouraging safer driving and parking, and protecting spaces like disabled bays.
Residents can report illegally parked vehicles, such as those on yellow lines or in permit bays without a valid permit, using the ‘parking violation’ form on the council’s website. For urgent issues, the Enforcement Team can be reached at 020 8871 8871.
Revenue from fines will be reinvested in local transport improvements, including road and pavement upgrades. Wandsworth plans to invest £10 million this year as part of its Decade of Renewal initiative, which aims to double investment in infrastructure.
