Marianne Faithfull, the celebrated singer, songwriter, actress, and enduring muse of the Rolling Stones, has passed away at the age of 78. The legendary artist, whose career spanned six decades, died peacefully in London, surrounded by her family.

Her passing was confirmed by her team on social media, marking the end of an era for one of the most influential figures in music and film.

Born on December 29, 1946, in Hampstead, London, Marianne Evelyn Gabriel Faithfull was raised in a family rich in history. Her father, Major Robert Glynn Faithfull, was a British intelligence officer, while her mother, Eva, hailed from an Austro-Hungarian noble lineage.

Faithfull’s career began in the mid-1960s after she was discovered by Rolling Stones’ manager Andrew Loog Oldham at just 18. She quickly rose to fame with her 1965 debut album, which featured the timeless hit As Tears Go By, co-written by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Oldham. The song became her signature track, cementing her place in music history.

As her popularity grew, she became a central figure in London’s vibrant Mod scene and embarked on a high-profile relationship with Mick Jagger. Their romance, alongside her collaborations with the Rolling Stones, made her a defining presence of the era. Faithfull also ventured into acting, starring in films such as The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968) and Hamlet (1969).
