Nominate Bexley’s local heroes for 2025 awards

The Civic Recognition Awards have been a highlight of the year in Bexley, with nearly 100 nominations received last year…reports Asian Lite News

Bexley residents are once again invited to honour the exceptional individuals and groups who make their borough a better place. The Civic Recognition Awards 2025 are now open for nominations, providing a platform to celebrate those whose contributions uplift their communities and inspire others.

This year, the awards will be presented in three categories. The first is the Civic Recognition of Young People, which celebrates young residents up to the age of 18 who have undertaken voluntary service for the community or an individual. The second category is the Civic Recognition of Voluntary Service by Adults, which acknowledges individuals over the age of 18 who have consistently devoted their time and energy to voluntary service over the years. Finally, the Civic Recognition of Outstanding Achievement honours people of all ages or organisations that have achieved extraordinary success in any field, including sport, culture, business, acts of bravery, or voluntary service.

The Civic Recognition Awards have been a highlight of the year in Bexley, with nearly 100 nominations received last year. This is a testament to the vibrant community spirit that defines Bexley, where residents are dedicated to supporting one another. This year, residents are encouraged to ensure these inspiring efforts do not go unnoticed.

Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE, Leader of the Council, expressed her appreciation for the borough’s selfless residents, saying, “Bexley is home to countless individuals who dedicate their time and energy to supporting others. These awards give us the opportunity to celebrate their incredible efforts and thank them for making our borough a better place.”

Cllr Sue Gower MBE JP, Mayor of Bexley, added, “Every day, people across Bexley are making a difference through their hard work, compassion, and commitment. If you know someone – whether an individual, group, or organisation – who deserves to be recognised for their incredible contribution, please take the time to nominate them. Let’s ensure their efforts get the recognition they deserve.”

Nominations for the 2025 Civic Recognition Awards are now open, and residents are encouraged to submit nominations online through the official form. The deadline for nominations is Friday, 21 February 2025. For those who require the nomination form in a different format, or need further information, the Council is happy to assist. Residents can email mayors.office@bexley.gov.uk or call 020 3045 5288 for support.

The Civic Recognition Panel will meet to consider all nominations on Monday, 17 March 2025, and will recommend the names of the people or organisations to be given civic recognition. The awards ceremony will take place on the evening of 13 May 2025. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the remarkable individuals and groups who make Bexley a thriving, compassionate, and welcoming community.
