Sexual health services to resume at Enfield Town clinics

The sexual health services will be delivered at two key locations: the ECHO clinic at The Town Clinic on Burleigh Way and White Lodge Medical Practice on Chase Side.

In a significant development for healthcare access in Enfield, the council has confirmed its agreement in principle with North Middlesex University Hospital (North Mid) to ensure the continued provision of sexual health services for the borough’s residents. The arrangement remains subject to the council’s formal decision-making process, but it marks a pivotal step in safeguarding these essential services.

The sexual health services will be delivered at two key locations: the ECHO clinic at The Town Clinic on Burleigh Way and White Lodge Medical Practice on Chase Side. These facilities will be operated by North Mid, which recently joined forces with the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, signaling a strengthened partnership in delivering healthcare to the community.

Comprehensive Care for Residents

The services provided under this agreement are extensive, offering a range of essential sexual health programs. These include testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), contraception and reproductive health services, and dedicated support for vulnerable groups. A specialized service for young people will also be available, reflecting the council’s commitment to addressing diverse community needs.

Councillor Alev Cazimoglu, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome of the negotiations. “I am extremely pleased that we have been able to come to a sustainable and deliverable arrangement following lengthy discussions on sexual health provision in the borough. This new arrangement will see services continuing from the Town Clinic and White Lodge Medical Practice,” she said.

Cazimoglu emphasized the broader significance of the agreement, noting its role in ensuring accessible, high-quality healthcare. “The fruitful outcome of these negotiations demonstrates the commitment of Enfield Council and North Mid to providing a sexual health program that is accessible and available to all and provides value for money. We will always strive to ensure our residents have access to high-quality and effective health services, with a range of options to support local need.”

Expanding Access Beyond Clinics

In addition to the services offered at the two physical locations, residents will benefit from a range of other options for sexual health treatment and advice. The Department of Health’s national directive allows open access to sexual health services in other boroughs, giving residents the flexibility to seek care beyond Enfield’s borders. Local pharmacies and GPs will also continue to play a vital role in supporting sexual health needs.

One particularly popular resource is the online E-Service, which Enfield Council will continue to commission. This fast, confidential digital platform has seen a significant rise in usage, with a 30% increase in patients opting for this modern method of accessing sexual health services.

A Collaborative Commitment to Community Health

The agreement highlights the shared dedication of Enfield Council and North Mid to maintaining and enhancing the borough’s healthcare infrastructure. The recent merger of North Mid with the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is expected to bolster the quality and scope of services available to residents.

This collaborative effort reflects a long-term commitment to meeting the health needs of a growing and diverse population. As Enfield awaits the finalization of the decision-making process, the groundwork has been laid for a robust and sustainable framework of sexual health services that prioritizes accessibility, inclusivity, and value for money.
