Street Party? Apply for Free Now

While some applications have already been submitted, organisers are reminded to apply by 3 March 2025 to allow sufficient time for processing and any necessary road closure orders.

Residents and Street Friends planning to host a Big Lunch 2025 street party on 7 or 8 June can once again apply free of charge in Bromley.

While some applications have already been submitted, organisers are reminded to apply by 3 March 2025 to allow sufficient time for processing and any necessary road closure orders. Normally, road closure fees apply, but in line with previous years, these will be waived to support both the Big Lunch initiative and the council’s Street Friends program.

Councillor Nicholas Bennett, Executive Councillor for Transport, Highways, and Road Safety, expressed his support: “I’m pleased to confirm that the council is waiving all administrative and legal costs for road closures for the Big Lunch weekend. This event brings communities together, and we fully support the sense of connection it fosters, which also aligns with our work alongside Street Friends.”

By handling applications in bulk, the council ensures a streamlined process, allowing more road closures to be approved without the usual fees, making it easier for residents to bring their communities together.

While public liability insurance is not required, it is strongly recommended. Organisers must meet key safety requirements, including:

✅ Clear diversion and warning signs with flashing lamps at vehicle access points

✅ Easy removal of tables, chairs, and decorations for emergency access

✅ Banners and bunting secured at a minimum height of 7 metres

Once approved, the council will notify emergency services, utility providers, and bus companies about the planned street parties.
