Tottenham’s Parks Level Up with £1.5m Upgrade

Haringey Council has announced a significant £1.5m investment to revitalise eight parks in Tottenham, with improvements shaped by community input.

The upgrades will bring enhanced facilities to Bruce Castle Park, Downhills Park, and Lordship Recreation Ground, each receiving over £250,000. Chestnuts Park, Markfield Park, Paignton Park, and White Hart Lane Recreation Ground will benefit from six-figure investments, while Belmont Recreation Ground is also set for improvements. The funding, sourced from developer contributions, aims to transform these vital green spaces in the N15, N17, and N22 areas.

The launch event, held at Bruce Castle Park, was attended by the Deputy Mayor of London for Environment & Energy, Mete Coban MBE, alongside Haringey Council Leader Cllr Peray Ahmet, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure Cllr Emily Arkell, and other council representatives. Local schoolchildren, parents, and Friends groups joined the celebration, marking a milestone for Haringey’s green spaces.

Cllr Arkell expressed the council’s commitment to accessible and inclusive parks, highlighting the importance of safe play areas for children. “We’ve worked closely with Friends groups and listened to their feedback to ensure the new facilities meet local needs. Through co-design with residents, we will also trial participatory budgeting, giving the community a voice in how the funds are allocated,” she said.

The upgrades will align with the council’s Parks and Greenspaces Strategy, focusing on creating welcoming, inclusive spaces for all. The co-design process begins immediately, with on-site works set to start this autumn and completion expected by spring 2026.

Haringey Council will also collaborate with Friends groups and external partners to secure additional funding, aiming to introduce further facilities and improvements across the parks.

This investment represents a significant boost for Tottenham residents, reinforcing the council’s dedication to enhancing public spaces and fostering community well-being.
