From April onwards, a Band D household in Wandsworth will pay just £990 in Council Tax, significantly lower than the national average
Wandsworth Council has confirmed plans to freeze the main element of Council Tax for the third consecutive year, keeping its residents paying the lowest Council Tax in the country. This decision, made possible through strong financial management, reflects the council’s commitment to delivering excellent services while ensuring affordability for residents.
Councillor Simon Hogg, Leader of Wandsworth Council, explained, “We are freezing your Council Tax for the third year in a row. That means you will continue to pay the lowest Council Tax in the country. Sound financial management is at the heart of everything we do. Wandsworth has one of the lowest levels of debt and some of the highest financial reserves in London, allowing us to freeze the main element of Council Tax and invest in what matters most to you – cleaner streets, safer neighbourhoods, and a stronger community.”
From April onwards, a Band D household in Wandsworth will pay just £990 in Council Tax, significantly lower than the national average. Residents living in the west of the borough may pay slightly more due to a levy from the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators.
In addition to freezing the main tax, Wandsworth is committed to supporting its most vulnerable residents. The council will introduce a 2 per cent increase in the adult social care precept, ensuring critical funding for older residents and NHS-backed care initiatives. This careful balance allows the council to protect essential services while maintaining its affordability promise.
The council has also highlighted its continued focus on improving services for the community:
Quick resolutions for neighbourhood issues: Residents can report graffiti, potholes, or damaged signs with a seven-day resolution guarantee by calling 020 8871 6000.
Expanded waste collection services: Every household is entitled to two free bulky waste collections per year. The council is also expanding its popular Mega Skips programme to provide even more disposal options.
Enhanced safety measures: Over 1,200 CCTV cameras monitor Wandsworth 24/7, ensuring safer streets, parks, and public spaces for everyone.

“Wandsworth has one of the lowest levels of debt and some of the highest financial reserves in London, allowing us to freeze the main element of Council Tax and invest in what matters to people.”
-Simon Hegg, Leader of the Council
As London Borough of Culture 2025, Wandsworth is inviting residents to celebrate its vibrant community through an exciting programme of cultural events. Launching in April, the initiative will include major cultural moments and local community-led activities throughout the year.
Councillor Hogg concluded, “Together, we’re making Wandsworth an even better place to live. With low taxes, improved services, and an exciting cultural calendar, our borough remains a fantastic place to call home.”
